Wildlife photography
Quiet hours with wild animals.
Field work from the plains, wetlands and coasts of North America by Elin Hartley.
The studio
Patience first, pictures second.
Grey Willow is a one-person studio. I photograph animals where they live, from a respectful distance and without bait or calls, and I would rather come home with nothing than push an animal for a frame. Prints are made in small runs on cotton rag paper.

Field notes

Otters at dawn
A family of river otters, a lakeshore blind and the coldest week of an early autumn.

Crane season in the San Luis Valley
Every March, twenty thousand sandhill cranes stop on the way north. Three springs of trying for one evening frame.

Six days of winter in the Lamar Valley
Minus twenty-five at dawn, a pack on the far ridge and one wolf that came closer than any of us expected.
